Maddy Broad Wins Silver, Local Swimmers Excel At Nationals

One event down, one more medal for Wallaceburg’s Madison Broad.
Broad captured a silver medal in the 200 metre backstroke at the age-group nationals in Calgary during day one of competition on Wednesday.
The Chatham Pool Shark has followed up impressively in day two action, finishing first after qualifying heats in the 50-metre backstroke. Broad enters tonight’s finals ranked first, with the best lane in the pool.
Broad won five medals at last year’s age group nationals – three gold, one silver and one bronze.
Genevieve Sasseville finished eighth in the 100 metre butterfly finals on Wednesday. Sasseville recorded a personal best-time in the preliminaries. “Gigi” has also qualified for the finals of the 100-metre free-swim. Sasseville enters the finals ranked eighth.
Blenheim’s Brendan VanHerk finished ninth in the boys 16-18 year old 200-metre backstroke.
