Former Chatham Maroons forward Sam Studnicka will play CIS hockey for St. Francis Xavier University next season.

Studnicka captained the OHL’s Sarnia Sting last season and was an assistant captain for the OHL’s Ottawa 67s, scoring 24 goals and 43 points in 60 games.

“He plays hard at both ends of the ice and is a great leader, captaining his team in Sarnia this past year,” said St. FX head coach Brad Peddle in a school news release. “Sam is a very smart player and has the ability to produce offensively, but is also very tough to play against. He comes highly recommended and will be a tremendous addition to our program.”

In total, Studnicka played 274 career OHL playoff and regular season games.

The 6’1″ centre played the 2011-2012 season with the Chatham Maroons scoring 25 points in 49 games as a rookie, while also earning a 14 game call up to the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires that season.

St. FX welcomed 9 new players this season, 8 coming directly from the CHL.
