Chatham’s Kirsten Horney will take the next step in her hockey career, as the 2001 born defender has signed with the PWHL’s Southwest Wildcats.

Horney spent last season playing for the Chatham Outlaws Bantam ‘AA’ team, and also skated for the Chatham-Kent Secondary School Golden Hawks.

For her, making the step to Southwest, and into Ontario’s premiere women’s Junior hockey loop was a simple one.

“I chose to play for the Southwest Wildcats this season because I want to play the highest level of women’s hockey available to me. I also feel the coaching staff there is very experienced and can help me reach my goals,” said Horney.

And those goals, says the puck moving defender, include playing hockey after her high school education is done at the power secondary level.

“I would like to have the opportunity to play post secondary hockey at the University or College level,” explained Horney. “Making the jump to junior hockey at this time will give me that opportunity.”

Southwest also features another Chatham product, Taylor Lockwood, who also attends CKSS.

Kirsten is working very hard working out, as she is wanting to play her best with these girls…many of them older than her. She should do well.
