Cowell Impressed With Blades’ Start
The Blenheim Blades are off to a strong start in the PJHL.
As heard on CK Sports Talk on 99.1 CKXS this week, General Manager Wayne Cowell says he’s quite pleased with the team’s performance to start the season.
“If you can be .500 after those first 10 games then you’re fairly successful to start the year,” Cowell says. “You’ve got new kids there and you’re trying to gel and trying to get the lines the way you like them, and you’re still doing a lot of tinkering.”
The Blades are in first place in the Stobbs Division with a record of 4-1-and-2.
Cowell has mixed feelings about a new rule that allows games to end in a tie.
“You play seven minutes on 3-on-3 hockey after regulation, and if you’re tied after [overtime] then it stays a tie when they used to have a shootout to break the tie. But the bad thing about this year, if you go into overtime and you lose in overtime, you get no points. Last year a tie going into overtime, the winner would get two, the loser would get one.”
The Blades will be back in action on Thursday in Petrolia.
