Chatham’s Burke Bechard has committed to play OUA basketball for the University of Guelph Gryphons next season.

“It feels amazing to know where my future is headed,” said Bechard of committing to Guelph. “I am going to a great school, playing for a great coach, and being part of a team that instantly felt right. I chose Guelph because it was the perfect fit for me.”

Bechard, a 5’10” guard, has spent recent seasons playing JUEL basketball for the London Ramblers.

“We are thrilled for Burke. She is a very unique and dynamic talent,” said Bechard’s London Ramblers coach Rob Angione.

“She can play all 5 positions and I definitely would choose her to have my back in a dark alley. She is an ultra competitive player and makes an impact in all aspects of the game. Burke will make an immediate impact in the CIS and we couldn’t be happier for her and her incredibly resilient journey to the next level.”

Resiliency has been a feature of Bechard’s path to University basketball, as the Chatham-Kent Secondary School standout, who won multiple MVP honours with the CKSS Golden Hawks this season, has recovered from multiple knee injuries in recent seasons.
