Chatham’s Matt Stokes will play OCAA men’s volleyball for the Sheridan College Bruins next season, after the 6’7″ athlete announced his commitment to the school for next season.

“Matt is an extremely talented player and hard worker,” Sheridan head coach Frank Pento said of Stokes in a school news release. “His ability to take over a match offensively is going to be a huge boost to our lineup next season. He is a big, strong athlete and will help out on defence as he is a strong blocker.”

For Stokes, a Chatham-Kent Secondary School student, who will study to be a plumber, the school was also a perfect fit.

“I like the fact that the first priority for all of the coaches is academics,” said Stokes in the news release. “Sheridan has a good skills training centre and is focused on helping me achieve my goal of becoming a plumber with the Mechanical Techniques for Plumbing program. They have all of the resources and access to any academic help I may need to succeed.”

Stokes, who also plays for the London Volleyball Club, has helped the CKSS Golden Hawks to multiple OFSAA appearances in recent seasons.

This season, Sheridan College finished middle of the pack in the OCAA West with a 9-9 record.
