Over the weekend of March 31 to April 2, at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton, Ontario, Bothwell’s Nick Wammes became a Canadian Champion at the Junior Canadian National Championships.

Nick Wammes became the Junior National Champion in the Keirin, and Team Sprint events, setting a new Canadian record in the Team Sprint.

Wammes also brought home the silver medal in the Match Sprints, with Je’Land capturing gold.

The Junior sprint squad from Ontario is only 3 people, but Ontario Cycling saw their potential and hired a former Track Sprint Olympian in October 2016 who shaped the team into National Champions in just a few short months.

The next step for Wammes involves some waiting, while Cycling Canada decides their selection of the Juniors who will represent Canada in the World Championships in August 2017.
