Fantuz Takes on New Role with Ticats
Chatham’s Andy Fantuz is back with the Hamilton Tiger Cats – this time with a new role.
Fantuz is now the Player Development Coordinator going into the 2017 season.
He says he’s excited about the role.
“I feel really good about it. I’m really glad to be back with Hamilton. I really like the organization and I’m glad to be involved”, he says. “The new role is essentially going to allow me to help out the young guys and the coaches in any way I can while I’m rehabbing”, says Fantuz.
Fantuz is rehabilitating from an ACL reconstruction – he tore his ACL back in October.
“Having ACL reconstruction is something that isn’t what I would call the worst injury I’ve had, but it’s definitely the longest process in recovery. It was really frustrating and disappointing when it happened, but I’m trying to make the most of it and I’m taking it in a positive way”, Fantuz says.
Fantuz says he’s 6 months post-surgery and the ACL graft should be healing within the month. He thinks he’s ahead of schedule recovery-wise, but he’s not sure when he’ll be returning to the field.
“It’s impossible for me to put a date [on my return]. The team has expressed to me that they want me to take my time and not risk re-injury.”
He says it will benefit everyone if he takes his time before returning as a player.
