Team Canada lost a dramatic 2-1 decision at the IIHF World Hockey Championships Sunday in Cologne, Germany.

Chatham-Kent’s Travis Konecny was a central player for Team Canada throughout the tournament, finishing fifth in team scoring with 8 assists in 10 games.

Sweden beat Canada in a shootout with Victor Hedman (Sweden) and Ryan O’Reilly (Canada) scoring the only two regulation goals.

With the Philadelphia Flyers this season in his rookie NHL campaign, Travis Konecny, a Clachan, Ontario product had 11 goals and 17 assists for 28 points in 70 games.

Konecny has also represented Canada at the World Junior Championships (U20), World U18 Championships, and World U17’s.

Russia won the bronze medal.

    You guys should mention the fact that Travis Konecny made a horrible “diving” (faking a hit from a club) which rendered in Canada’s 1 – 1 goal. Terrible sportsmanship from an athlete at this level. Shame Shame Shame!

    Travis touched on his chest . Holding his mouth and head Crying like a Child to make the Swede get a 2 minutes penelty . Forever remembered as a cheater.
