U16 Chatham Strikers Win Soccerfest Title
The girls faced the Lasalle Stompers in the opener winning 9-0. Payton Sabourin scored a hat trick, with Taryn Dudley and Kerrigan Jacques scoring two, and Jessica Conrod and Emma Doom each scoring once.
They played the Southwest Fusion next defeating them 9-0. Alexa Arbour, Conrod and Sabourin each had a pair of goals, while Shelbie Coristine, Doom, and Jacques added singles.
In the last game in pool play the Chatham Strikers met, and defeated Leamington United 3-1. Arbour scored twice while Dudley added the other. This placed the Strikers 1st overall heading to the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, Chatham matched up against the St.Catherines Jets defeating them 3-0. Conrod, Coristine and Dudley had the goals.
Facing Leamington United in the semi-final, the Strikers came away with a 4-1 victory. Payton Sabourin notched her second hat trick of the tournament, while Taryn Dudley also scored to advance the U16 Strikers to the final.
Chatham met a strong Cambridge United in the final, but again came away victorious, defeating them 2-1 in a hard fought battle to become the tournament champions. Jessica Conrod scored both goals in the championship game.
The Strikers earned 3 shutouts over weekend due to outstanding defensive play by Joelle Tetrault, Alison Stephens, Clair Boughner, Emmi Timmermans, Candace Newman and goalkeeper Hunter Gagner.
