The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds open their training camp Tuesday, but Chatham’s Joseph Raaymakers will not be on the ice.

The 1998 goaltender has requested a trade, and won’t attend training camp, this coming in a report from the Sault Star, following an interview with Raaymakers’ agent on Friday.

Raaymakers has battled against top NHL draft pick netminders since arriving in a Soo Greyhounds uniform. First it was New York Rangers second rounder Brandon Halverson, now it is Los Angeles Kings third round selection Matt Villalta.

Raaymakers lost his starting job to Villalta near the end of last season, before stealing it back for the playoffs, and putting up sparking numbers, that earned him CHL Goaltender of the Week honours, and a 1.95 GAA and .942 Save Percentage in the playoffs.

According to the Sault Star article, playing time was a major concern for Raaymakers, who has split the net the past three seasons.

Although a trade partner was not immediately available, Soo Greyhounds general manager Kyle Raftis did state he would continue to work on the process.
