Team Griffith won the second annual Athletes Fuel Cup Thursday night at Thames Campus Arena in Chatham, with a 9-4 win in Game 6 of the series.

Team Griffith, captained by Buffalo Sabres forward Seth Griffith of Wallaceburg, won the series 4-2.

James McEwan, who plays for the OHL’s Guelph Storm, was the player of the game, scoring a hat trick. Griffith had a pair of goals, while University of Windsor forward Meredith Goldhawk, Alex Cunningham, Lucas Fancy, and Cam Welch also scored.

Team Griffith also included NHL defenseman TJ Brodie of the Calgary Flames.

Scoring for Team Schaafsma, which is captained by Fort Wayne Komets (ECHL) forward Jamie Schaafsma, were Trent Fox (Mississauga, OHL), Nolan Gardner (Ottawa, OHL), as well as Chatham Maroons forward Grant Spence, and Ryan Gagner.

Seth Griffith led the 6 game series with 9 goals, followed by Team Griffith members Brady Pataki (Moncton, QMJHL) and James McEwan with 8 goals each. Grant Spence, an Oshawa Generals draft pick who will play for the GOJHL’s Chatham Maroons this season topped Team Schaafsma scoring with 7 goals in the series.
