Maroons Raise Funds & Awareness For Breast Cancer
The Chatham Maroons paddled with the Breast Buddies on Monday night at their final practice of the season. After a swim to cool off, the Maroons pulled the Dragon Boat out of the water and then power washed it for the Breast Buddies. The Breast Buddies are off to Italy in 2018 for an international competition.
The Breast Buddies dragon boat team is an enthusiastic group of breast cancer survivors who practice twice a week in the spring, summer and fall. The team competes in several festivals a year and always finish first in their lane. Their mission is to promote awareness of a quality of life after breast cancer and in doing so, they impart hope and empowerment to all with this disease.
The Maroons’ “Breast Cancer Awareness Night” is scheduled for October 29th when they will take on the St. Thomas Stars at 7:00 pm. The team will be auctioning their Maroons’ pink jerseys and raffling off a number of pink items to help raise money for this cause. In the past 4 years the Maroons have raised just over $13,000, which has been shared between the Breast Buddies and the Canadian Cancer Society.
