This past weekend the Chatham-Kent Secondary School senior girls basketball team won the L’Essor tournament in Tecumseh.

Despite competing with only 6 players due to injuries and work commitments, the Hawks were lead by the strong play of Taryn Dudley, and her teammates throughout the weekend to capture the tournament title.

Dudley, who is currently in grade 11 at CKSS, was named tournament MVP.

“The girls faced the challenges and played with heart and determination,” said coach Jessica Rowden.

Facing Herman in their first game, CKSS won 45-25. Up next the Hawks faced Catholic Central in which they were successful again, winning 55-32.

In the finals, CKSS faced a strong, disciplined team from Essex. Going into the last few minutes, CKSS was only up by 1. They battled back and forth and eventually with a key bucket and some fouls shots near the end, the Hawks pulled off the victory 35-30.

Top scorers over the weekend were Jade Barko, Jessica Conrod, and Taryn Dudley.
