LOCAL NHL Wrap: Opening Night – Konecny Finds Score Sheet
Travis Konecny is officially on the scoreboard.
The 20-year-old Clachan native is the first local NHL’er to register a point on the 2017-18 season with an assist in Philadelphia’s opening night 5-3 win in San Jose. Konecny set up a Jordan Weal power-play-goal mid-way through the first period to give Philly a 2-0 lead early. Konecny is in his second NHL season. He registered 11 goals and 17 assists (29 points) in 71 regular season games through his rookie campaign.
TJ Brodie wasn’t quite as lucky, as his Flames were shut out 3-0 by their Alberta rivals, the Edmonton Oilers. Connor McDavid scored the hat trick to lead the Oil through Calgary. Brodie was a minus three on the evening, having been on the ice for all of Edmonton’s goals.
TONIGHT – Wallaceburg’s Seth Griffith makes his Buffalo Sabres debut tonight, home to Montreal at 7pm. Konecny and the Flyers are right back at it, traveling to Los Angeles for a 10 pm start.
