Chatham’s James McEwan didn’t take long to hit the scoresheet for the AHL’s Laval Rocket, but it wasn’t enough to earn him a professional contract, as the 20-year-old forward was assigned to the OHL’s Guelph Storm.

McEwan, who was sent to the AHL by the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens, scored for Laval in a 7-5 win over the Belleville Senators.

The Guelph Storm have already started their OHL season with a 2-1-0-1 record.

Last season, the 1997 born forward, who is an alumni of the Chatham-Kent Cyclones and Chatham Maroons, scored 19 goals and 39 points with the OHL’s Storm in 58 games.
