Kings Edge Lakers
The Dresden Jr. Kings scored an empty net goal with just 36 seconds left in the third period to grab a 6-4 victory from the Wallaceburg Lakers last night in PJHL action at Memorial Arena. Nolan Vandenboorn led the way for Dresden with a hat trick. Vandenboorn is tied in team scoring with 10 goals alongside Kevin Ritzer. Cody Nicolaisen had two goals, including a powerplay marker for the Lakers.
Dresden outshot the Lakers 48-38 but new Wallaceburg goaltender Travis Moore turned in a solid effort between the pipes in his first start with the team. Zachery Hartig added his team leading eighth goal of the season to bring the Lakers within one with just over three minutes to go. Try as they did, Wallaceburg couldn’t find the equalizer.
Canadian Air Force veteran, retired Master Corporal Ed Rowe, was honoured during the annual Lakers’ pre-game Service of Remembrance conducted by the Wallaceburg Legion Honour Guard.
Dresden plays next on Friday at 7:30 when they’ll host Amherstburg while Wallaceburg will be home with those same Admirals next Wednesday night.
