UCC Wrestlers Pin Down Hardware
A Gold medal was earned by Maddison Segeren at 64kg. The Grade 10, 2nd year wrestler with incredible flexibility and a determination to win owned the mat pinning her opponent at the end of the 2nd round.
Bronze medals were awarded to Ben Parent at 54 kg, and Hanna Srokosz at 47.5kg.
Ben Parent, the Grade 11 with 3 years experience, won two and lost two of his fights against 4 tough wrestlers.
Hanna Srokosz, a Grade 10, debuted her wrestling career battling 3 other girls for her 3rd place finish. The team grappled against athletes from Windsor to Woodstock for the kick off event of the season.
“I’m impressed by their performance of 10 wins and 9 losses,” said coach Chris Parent.
“Wrestling is a situational sport, where different moves and counters create opportunities for a myriad of movements, the success of each of those moves depends greatly on the remaining strength, stamina and knowledge of you and your opponent. We have to work on our defense to leg attacks and we need to increase our effectiveness of our set-ups.”
Next up for the UCC Lancers is the London Western High School Invitational Tournament on December 2.
