Third Period Foils Maroons
The Chatham Maroons were foiled by a poor third period Thursday on the road, falling 6-4 to the Sarnia Legionnaires after leading 4-2 heading into the final frame.
In the first period, Josh King opened the scoring for the Chatham Maroons, with Grant Spence and Noah Bushnell picking up assists.
Affiliate player Cameron Welch, who was playing in his second game with Chatham, got his first Junior goal to add to the Maroons’ lead. Welch, a Chatham product and JMSS student, is currently sitting among league scoring leaders in the Alliance Major Midget ‘AAA’ loop with the Windsor Jr. Spitfires.
Steven Fowler scored to end the first period, and also scored the lone goal of the second period to put the Maroons up 4-2.
In the third however, it was all Sarnia, as the Legionnaires stormed back with four unanswered goals, including two by Brock Perry, to cap off the comeback win.
Chatham hosts Strathroy this Sunday at Memorial Arena.
