Our first story at CKSN wasn’t a headline breaker. In fact, it was one of a Minor Peewee Chatham-Kent Cyclones team losing a tournament. Pretty uneventful, but that’s how it was on January 1, 2011.

Flash forward 7 years, that’s right, many of you have been reading CKSN for 7 years, and some of the names from that story who were only 11 at the time, are still in the news, and still earning coverage.

Scoring five goals in the tournament, which was held in St. Catherines, was Thamesville’s Lucas Vanroboys, who is playing this season with the BCHL’s Nanaimo Clippers. He turned out to be a draft pick of the OHL’s Hamilton Bulldogs, and is still pursuing higher level hockey goals.

Also contributing in the tournament for the young Cyclones were Geoffry VandenBoorn, Carter Wright, Noah Fox, and Tyler Hotham three players who have gone on to decent Junior careers locally.

Vandenborn is among the PJHL Stobbs Division scoring leaders this season, skating alongside his older brother Nolan with the Dresden Kings. After all those years, he’s still teammates with Noah Fox and Tyler Hotham, who are also helping the Kings to a strong season.

Carter Wright is skating with the Blenheim Blades for the second straight season.

It’s been a long time following these young players.

Happy Holidays from CKSN, here’s to another year of sports, and to another 7 years of following our local athletes.
