The CKSS Golden Hawks girls hockey team travel to ‘AAA’ OFSAA hockey this week.

While most school’s who are competing in their first OFSAA in a decade would be just happy to be there, the Hawks have other thoughts in mind.

“We’re going to OFSAA to win a medal,” says Head Coach Ian Kennedy. “I don’t know any team that would work this hard to get this far, and just be happy to participate.”

The Hawks were 22-1-1 this season, winning the London Crusader Cup, the Southern Ontario Classic, LKSSAA, SWOSSAA, and a bronze at the St. Michael’s Preseason tournament, which is where they lost their one and only game.

In the process, CKSS defeated a pair of teams, Notre Dame from Sudbury, and St. Peter’s from Peterborough, who won their respective regions, and will be at OFSAA.

“Having played and beat a few teams that are at OFSAA has given our girls confidence in what they can do. We thought we deserved to be there last year, and last year we even beat Brantford, who was the OFSAA bronze medalists, but it wasn’t to be. We’re going in, and we’ll enjoy the experience, but a medal is our goal.”

CKSS enters as the 5th. seed in the tournament. They will face John F Ross, Brooklin, and Sacred Heart in pool play on Wednesday and Thursday. The top two teams from each pool advance to the medal round Thursday afternoon.

OFSAA takes place from March 21-23 in Cambridge.
