Opening night at South Buxton Raceway went off without a hitch this Saturday under sunny skies and an energetic crowd.

The Auto Tech Sales and Service Thunderstocks made their 2018 debut, bringing veteran racers out of retirement. Steve Shaw #96 put on an incredible show for fans, with Shaw taking the checkered flag.

“I give them a lot of credit for wanting to do it again,” Shaw said in victory lane. As soon as the green flag dropped, Shaw was able to maneuver track traffic and collect the first Thunderstock feature win of the season.

Dale Glassford #60 was all smiles as he climbed out of his car after winning the first West Side Performance Plus Late Model feature of the season.

“Can’t complain about nights like tonight,” Glassford said.

Dale Glassford started the feature at the front and maintained his lead throughout the race. Mike Lewis finished second and Brad Authier finished third.

Joel Dick #09 was the winner of the Schinkels Gourmet Meats Modified Feature. Dick, immediately separated himself from the pack as soon as the Green flag waved. Hot on his tracks was Eugene Hoekstra #36, who finished second, after battling hard with third place finisher Brian Speelman #22s.

It was a very emotional win for Marshall Hereygers #31 who brought home the first Great Canadian Mini Mod feature win of the season. Surrounded by family, friends, and supporters, an emotional Hereygers thanked his crew.

“We worked our butts off getting this car fixed in the pits,” said Hereygers who quickly climbed from 5th to 1st place. Andrew Pfahler #7x brought home second, while West Bertozzi #K9 was third.

Regular racing continues next Saturday at South Buxton Raceway.
