Chatham’s Zach Thompson carded a final round 43, at Seven Lakes Golf Course in Lasalle on Saturday to win the 11-12 Year Old Boy’s Division Championship and first place among all 9-hole golfers 12 years and under in the Essex/Kent Jr. Hughes Golf tour.

The 9 Hole Jr. Tour consists of 5 dates of competition taking place at Tilbury Golf Course, Oxley Beach Golf Course, Talbot Trail Golf Club, Woodland Hills Golf Club and Seven Lakes Golf Course. The 2018 season had 54 Registered golfers.

Thompson, whose home course is Links of Kent in Chatham explained, “Going into the final event I knew I had to post a low score to win, my 2 stroke lead coming in to the last event really wasn’t too comforting, knowing the quality of golfers the tour has.”

He later said, “This was my first year on the tour, and all the other golfers, parents and organizers have been great, I can’t wait to do it again next year.”

Thompson plans on joining the 18-hole tour next year where he will have 10 Dates on the calendar and even tougher competition.

Thompson has had a busy year on the golf course, earlier in the season, his group “Zacoz Amigoz” raised over $1,600 by organizing the 1st Annual Family Scramble for Juvenile Arthritis, a disease he has been dealing with for over 2 years.
