Gooday Lets Play Hoping To Support First Time Hockey Players In Small Town CK

A new local organization called Gooday Lets Play is looking to help kids participate in minor hockey organizations in Chatham-Kent and the surrounding area.

The charity supports athletes and teams in Dresden, Bothwell, Glencoe, and West Lorne.

“It started with people wanting to help out in some way with the John Horvat Memorial Novice Tournament held in Bothwell every January for 30 years now,” said Ron Horvat about the origins of the organization.

“Because of our small towns losing a big number of youth because of the expense to start kids playing I came up with the idea to see if we could raise enough funds to help with these first time registrations, and to raise up numbers in the small towns,” said Horvat who has served as the head coach for the St. Thomas Stars, Chatham Maroons, and last season the Komoka Kings of the GOJHL.

After last year’s success, the Gooday Lets Play group is hoping to raise $10,000 this season to reimburse all first time players in Bothwell, Dresden, Glencoe, and West Lorne.

The group is looking for not only funds, but also quality used equipment to help support local families.
