Mat Hawryluk Commits To Wayne State University
“I was very inclined by the coaching staff and players I got to meet on my initial visit,” said Hawryluk of his choice of the Wayne State Warriors. “The facility’s from an athletic standpoint are exceptional from an all new weight room and upgraded golf facility. Their home course is TPC Michigan, which is a spectacular course to be able to play every week and will only make me a better player.”
The UCC Lancers product, and former LKSSAA champion plans to attend the Mike Ilitch School of Business while at Wayne State.
Although academics and athletics were at the forefront of Hawryluk’s decision to commit to Wayne State, he said the connection he felt to Wayne State’s coaching staff was the deciding factor.
“The biggest factor for me was my immediate connection with their coach and he made me feel very welcome right away.”
Hawryluk, a Maple City member, who also participated on the Jamieson Tour this summer, is excited to begin the next phase of his golf career, and thankful for the people who helped him get there.
“I feel very blessed to have a great group of people behind me and the support I have received has been amazing. I couldn’t be where I am today without my family and of course my mentor John Dengel. I am very excited to be playing golf at the next level.”
Carson McKinlay (Ridgetown), Garret Day (Chatham), and Brendan Seys (Port Lambton) are local golfers currently on the Wayne State roster.
