After nearly a week of speculation, the Chatham Maroons pulled the trigger on a trade sending Griffin Robinson and Maddux Rychel to the Leamington Flyers in exchange for Lucas Fancy and Cam Symons.

Both Fancy and Symons are local products, with Fancy having played for the Maroons last season, and growing up in Chatham. Symons played ‘AAA’ in Chatham, and spent last season with the Blenheim Blades.

“We are very excited to have Lucas Fancy and Cam Symons join our team,” said Maroons head coach and GM Tyler Roeszler.

“We have a culture that is being built within our team that if you do everything you can do to help the team win, all of our individual aspirations will happen. We believe that if you have great teammates on your team, who have a passion to be great players and pair that with a focus on developing our players, that winning will be a product of that. Bringing Lucas and Cam to our team allows us to grow our team and culture moving forward,” Roeszler added.

Fancy has 16 points in 30 games this season for Leamington. He spent last season with the Strathroy Rockets after being an offseason signing of the Maroons.

“Lucas is a great person and teammate. He uses his speed and skating ability to create offence in all game situations. He is a veteran in our league and will bring leadership and experience to our team,” said Roeszler. “Lucas has incredible work habits and that will be great for our players to watch and learn from.”

Symons had 17 points in 27 games at the time of the trade. He had 20 goals and 30 points in 31 games as an underager last season with the Blenheim Blades.

“Cam is a great young man who brings great work ethic, passion, and integrity to our team. Cam plays the right way and is an intense competitor- he’s always first on the puck, he wins puck battles, and brings incredible intangibles. Cam creates offence by using his speed and strength to get to high traffic areas on the ice to score.”

Robinson and Rychel had been Chatham’s top two scorers this season, but requested a trade recently back to Leamington, who they were acquired from last season.
