Bridget Carleton Waiting And Training Until Basketball Resumes
Just before sports across the globe shut down, Carleton ran her first ever youth basketball camp in Chatham, something she plans to do each year.
“My first basketball camp was amazing,” said Carleton. “It was so much fun to connect with some kids in Chatham who love to play basketball. I’m really looking forward to year two in the future.”
Right now, Carleton doesn’t know what the future looks like, but she hopes it involves WNBA training camp next month. She has already learned the Olympics this summer won’t be taking place until 2021.
“My plans are to attend the Minnesota Lynx training camp at the end of April. I will also be training with the Senior Women’s National Team at some point in the next few months.”
For now, the local basketball star is training at home, trying to stay sharp until she can get back with her teammates.
For her, the coronavirus news, and cancellation of the NBA season, and other leagues was both unfortunate, and necessary.
“The decision was made to suspend the NBA season and other leagues followed suit. The experts make those decisions but it seems to be what is right for the safety of everyone right now. It would be unfortunate and very disappointing but again, the experts make those decisions for the safety of everyone. It is out of our control.”
We are all looking forward to seeing Carleton back on the court in the near future, and for another WNBA season.
