Luke Kelly Keeping Sports Fans Entertained With Podcast During The Pandemic
A global pandemic gives people time to reflect. Time to make changes, to pursue their passion. That’s exactly what it did for Chatham’s Luke Kelly, who ramped up his Empire Universe podcast during the COVID-19 lockdown.
“I’ve always enjoyed watching and listening to the Joe Rogan experience and he has always been an idol of mine, so it inspired me to start a podcast,” Kelly explained of launching his podcast.
“I like doing podcasts because I learn from other people, and their experiences in different aspects in life.”
Kelly’s show has welcomed guests who have played in the NHL, NWHL, CFL, and OHL, and fought in the UFC. He’s also welcomed local Junior hockey stars, and regional MMA and fitness athletes.
Kelly has always enjoyed sports, and has loved talking to local athletes on his podcast.
“I’ve always enjoyed watching hockey, huge Toronto Maple Leafs fan, sorry haters,” he said with a laugh.
“I have always been curious to know what goes through a players head during a hockey game. It also gives the local young guys the spotlight they’ve earned. I’ve been watching MMA, especially UFC for as long as I can remember. I like to how each fighter adapts to the MMA life. Fitness has been apart of my life for the last 5 years. I like having different athletes on the podcast to gain more knowledge and a different perspective on fitness because you never stop learning.”
Obviously, Kelly is a huge sports enthusiast, and his podcast is filled with interesting and insightful conversations with other sports enthusiasts, and athletes.
Podcasting is a burgeoning industry, with more and more people making a living from their shows. While Kelly isn’t turning away the thought of making his podcast a business, he’s also just enjoying the process, and the conversation.
“My goals for my podcast is real simple. I just like to have people tune in and be entertained,” said Kelly.
“If yes, my podcast got really big and popular one day, I’m not turning down sponsors or business opportunities. However, at the end of the day, I’m not about that. I’m just a guy who wants to continue to learn from other people and their experiences.”
