Brett Brochu Passed Over In NHL Draft

Tilbury’s Brett Brochu was not selected in Wednesday’s NHL Draft.

The star goaltender for the OHL’s London Knights led the OHL in goals against average, was second in save percentage, was named to the OHL’s All-Rookie Team, twice named OHL Goaltender of the Month, and was invited to Team Canada’s World Junior camp.

That’s an impressive resume to not be drafted.

One fact working against Brochu was the fact he was the only netminder rated by NHL Central Scouting who stands under six-feet-tall.

The former Chatham-Kent Cyclones and Dresden Kings standout stole the starting job with the London Knights this season, pushing out NHL draft pick Jordan Kooy early in the season.

In total, 20 goaltenders were selected in the two-day NHL draft, including two OHL goaltenders.
