In the cycle that is Chatham-Kent hockey players, it’s been a few seasons since so many local hockey players have been in the OHL simultaneously.

Last night, the OHL season got underway, with multiple games on the schedule, and seven Chatham-Kent products on OHL rosters.

The veteran of the bunch is overage defender Grayson Ladd who will serve as an assistant captain of the Windsor Spitfires.

Following Ladd are veterans Brett Brochu of the London Knights and Deni Goure of the Owen Sound Attack.

Brady Stonehouse (Ottawa 67s), Zander Veccia (Mississauga Steelheads), and Ryan Gagner (Peterborough Petes) would have all had a season of Junior hockey under their belts in a non-COVID world, but they are rookies this year and in their NHL Draft season.

The lone player selected in this year’s OHL Draft who will immediately make the jump is Declan Waddick with the Niagara IceDogs.

Prospects Brayden Degelas (Sarnia Sting) and David Brown (Saginaw Spirit) could see call ups, but will start the season with the Sarnia Legionnaires and Chatham Maroons respectively.
