Live Pro Wrestling Coming To Chatham This Week

Chatham is getting ready to rumble!

A pro wrestling event featuring some of the best talent in Ontario is coming to the WISH Centre in Chatham on Saturday, October 15th .

Organizers with the Live Pro Wrestling event say they’re excited to bring a high quality and family friendly event to Chatham-Kent and area wrestling fans.

“A live wrestling event is a pretty unique experience that doesn’t compare to much else,” said Jay Smith of the organizing team. “We’ve got some of the top names around and the best up and coming talent from Ontario, Michigan and Buffalo all joining us in Chatham for the show. Our goal is to bring a really solid and fun product to local fans and help them get lost in the magic.”

The event will feature some of professional independent wrestling’s most
recognizable and respected talents. Psycho Mike, “The Saturday Night Delight” Tyler Tirva, Mark Wheeler, “The Remix” Kevin Bennett, as well as female stars Jody Threat, Miley and Taylor Rising will all compete in the squared circle on October 15th. Some of Southwestern Ontario’s quickest rising wrestling stars will also hit the ring including tag teams Books & Looks (Rodney Matthews and Michael Greyson), High Octane (Bryce Hansen and Chilly Brown) and Locked & Loaded (Wheeler and Jessie V). Space Monkey, Ethan Dux, “The Alpha” Chris Moore, “The Prodigy” Vikram Prashar and more will also be in attendance. The strong majority of the talent is born and bred in Southwestern Ontario, giving a local flare to the event.

The organizing team is comprised of four local long-time Southwestern Ontario pro wrestling event veterans, Jim Lengyel, Matt McAusland, Holly Lengyel and Smith, who each have 20 years of in-ring and event planning experience. Jim, Matt and Holly were all previously involved in running Can-Am Rising, a wrestling promotion in the Windsor area in years prior.

“We’re friends who have become family thanks to wrestling,” Smith added. “We’ve had a lifetime of road trips and this show is something we’ve all silently thought about over the years but kept to ourselves. It was just a matter of time.”

Smith, a local radio announcer and morning man on 99.1 CKXS had been
contemplating organizing a future charity wrestling event, potentially for the CK Hospice, an organization close to his heart, when the group began discussing a potential event together.

“This show will give us a great idea of what is possible in the area for more
events in the future. I’d love to be able to potentially help some great local charities and causes,” he said.

Smith was bit by the wrestling bug as a child after being introduced to it by his grandfather in the heyday of the WWF’s Hulk Hogan, Macho Man Randy Savage, and the Hart Foundation. After a brief attempt trying to live out that childhood dream as a wrestler himself, Smith turned to working as a referee, ring announcer, commentator and producer behind the scenes.

“I remember getting lost in it all as a kid. The drama. The athleticism. The larger-than-life personalities. It’s really cool to be able to see that same magic on the faces of other kids – and the big kids too, at these shows. There’s really nothing like a live pro wrestling event.”
