Today let’s meet Earl ‘Flat’ Chase (1910-1954), who was inducted into the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.

Born in the Buxton area, he played all positions for the Chatham Coloured All-Stars.

Chase held records for the longest home runs ever hit at multiple ballparks. As a pitcher he won the final two games as the All-Stars won the 1934 OBA Championship.

In 1939, he starred for the London Majors who won the Amateur World’s Baseball Championship by beating all teams they faced from the Baseball Congress of America.
