The Tilbury Bluebirds have jumped out to a 2-0 lead in their best-of-five series with the Plattsville Lakers in the WOSHL.

Saturday night in front of a home crowd in Tilbury, the Bluebirds won 7-4.

Plattsville played with a lot of grit and would not fold. The game got a little nasty late in the third with Mike MacIntyre being ejected for fighting. On the same stoppage, Laker Captain Kevin Hu was ejected for spitting.

Ryan Roth was the Bluebirds’ hot hand, scoring a hat trick. Cole Chevalier, Travis Winkworth, Vyacheslav Chegrintsev, and Austin Jennings added markers.

Ryan Polidori had a solid night in the net, facing 44 shots. The Lakers outshot the Bluebirds in this game, as Tilbury had 38 shots on goaltender Frank Boal.

Sunday’s win took overtime to decide, as the eighth-place Lakers are a much-improved team in the playoffs. The Bluebirds got the 5-4 win on an OT goal by Ryan Crevatin.

Ryan Roth had a pair of goals, with Austin Jennings and Vyacheslav Chegrintsev rounding out the scoring.

Ryan Polidori was between the pipes for the win and needed a strong performance as the Birds were outshot 31-17.

The Bluebirds can sweep the Lakers with a win at home next Saturday, March 11. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.
