Bluebirds sweep Lakers
By Wyatt Williams
The Tilbury Bluebirds have advanced to the next round of playoffs by sweeping the Plattsville Lakers 3-0 in the Western Ontario Super League.
Plattsville looked sharp throughout the game on Saturday, but could not withstand the pressure and ultimately fell 7-3 to Tilbury.
The teams would go to the first intermission tied at 2-2 on goals by Adam Hughes and Mitch VanTeeling of the Bluebirds and Tony Tikel and Brady Schmidt for the Lakers.
Early in the second, Ryan Crevatin would put the Bluebirds up by one, but the Lakers hung in. Midway through, Brady Schmidt would score his second of the game on the power-play. Crevatin scored again three minutes later to regain the lead for the Bluebirds.
In the third, the Bluebirds would put the game out of reach scoring three unanswered goals by Ryan Roth, Erik Winter, and Logan Percy.
The game was a chippy affair with a lot of hard hits delivered by both teams, and quite a few penalties being called.
Ryan Polidori was in the net for the Bluebirds, and the Lakers went with Ivgeni Luchko.
The Bluebirds’ opponent in the next playoff series has yet to be announced.
