Defending WOC champions eliminated

The Chatham Maroons have been eliminated from the GOJHL playoffs by the Vipers, after falling 6-3 in Game 5 Friday night in LaSalle.

Rory Elson (1) got the Maroons on the board, scoring at the 27-second mark of the first period.  Brenden McKay (1) and Connor Paronuzzi(2) picked up the assists.

Brayden Degelas scored his third of the series, taking advantage of a LaSalle penalty at 12:26 of the first, with Noah Mathieson (4) and Nate Dowling (1) getting the assists.

Brett Fullerton faced 14 LaSalle shots while Ian Michelone had 18 Chatham shots fired at him.

The Maroons went up 3-0 at 1:18 of the second after Joel Fonovic scored his second of the playoffs, with the lone assist going to Jaxen Fortier-Smith (1).

The Vipers started their comeback at 13:53, scoring on a power play goal to make the score 3-1 for the Maroons going into the third.

The Vipers out-chanced the Maroons 17-11 in the second period.

With five minutes and seven seconds to go, the Vipers scored the eventual game winner, followed by two empty net goals at 17:32 and 18:27.

The Vipers scored two consecutive power-play goals in the third at the 32-second mark and at 9:19, tying the game at 3-3.

LaSalle outshot the Chatham 19-14 in the third.

The Chatham Maroons 2023-2024 season Spring Evaluation Camp will be held April 28-29, 2023. The Camp will take place at the Thames Campus Arena in Chatham. Prospect forms and details are available on the Maroons website.
