Maroons blank Vipers 4-0

The Chatham Maroons shutout the LaSalle Vipers 4-0 in Game 3 of the quarter-final series on Sunday.

The Maroons lead 1-0 at the end of the first period with Joshua Lepain scoring his first goal of the series. The assist went to Liam Doyle and Noah Mathieson.

Julien Gervais scored his second goal of the series 11:18 into the second period, with the assists going to Connor Paronuzzi (1) and Rorey Elson (4), giving the Maroons a 2-0 advantage at the end of 40 minutes.

After failing to score on a power play in the first two games in the series, David Brown scored a power-play goal at the 1:25 mark of the third. Noah Mathieson and Brayden Degelas both notched their second assists of the first round.

Joel Fonovic (1) scored an unassisted empty net goal at 18:57 of the third period with Viper goalkeeper Tre Altiman on the bench in favour of an extra attacker.

The Vipers outshot the Maroons 48-26 over 60 minutes.

The Maroons were 1-4 on the power play while their penalty kill unit and goalie Fullerton blanked the Vipers on three power play opportunities.

The Vipers lead the best-of-seven playoff series 2-1, with Game 4 set for March 8 at the Vollmer Culture and Recreation Complex in LaSalle. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
