Former Blenheim Bobcat Breanne Nicholas who is Canada’s Captain for the Rugby 7s team continues to make an impact on girls rugby in Chatham-Kent.

Coach Jeff Phaneuf of UCC says, “Rugby continues to grow in CK, thanks to players like Nicholas, who the program is very proud of.”

Currently, there are two Chatham teams that have been fielding a junior and senior team.

The league also includes two Sarnia teams and one team from Petrolia

This season, high school teams will play five games and two tournaments. The first tournament takes place next week in London.

The sport continues to grow at UCC and CKSS. Both teams carry 40 kids, a varsity team, and a developmental team. There is no junior league this year.

The future is bright for local girls rugby.
