Chatham Thunder U19 win gold in St. Marys

The U19 Chatham Thunder ringette team travelled to St Mary’s this past weekend for their first tournament of the season, winning the championship on Sunday, with a 3-0 win over Exeter.

Friday afternoon saw the Thunder playing Exeter-Seaforth in a tight defensive contest. Chatham came out on top 2-0 as Brooke Howe and Grace Norris both scored with helpers going to Kate Thompson, Lily Allado and Alena Allado.

A late Friday night game against Etobicoke opened the floodgates for the offence as the Thunder prevailed 10-1. Howe had a hat trick, , Lily Allado and Kai Janess both had a pair, with singles going to Kate Thompson, Mercy Wysman and Lindsey Durocher.

Saturday afternoon had the Dorchester Dragons as the opponent. Leading just 1-0 on a Brooke Howe goal, the game was frantic near the end and the Dragons tied it up with just 32 seconds to go, as the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Another tight defensive battle resulted in a 3-0 Chatham win for the championship over Exeter. Lily Allado had two goals wrapped around a single from Brianna Badder.

Natalie Haggerty was strong between the pipes for Chatham for all four games, allowing just two goals with a couple shutouts to boot.

The Thunder finish the first half of the season in Elora-Fergus this Sunday. They have put together a strong start of 7-0-1 with 42 goals for and only nine against.
