Football Ontario announced the inductees into their inaugural Football Ontario Hall of Fame, Class of 2023.

Chatham’s Andy Fantuz was named in the player’s category in an announcement made by Ontario Football. The announcement was made on Monday, which was Fantuz’s 40th birthday.

Fantuz played high school football with the McGregor Panthers, where he was also a basketball standout.

Fantuz found success as a receiver with the Western Mustangs, winning the Hec Crighton trophy in 2005, which goes to the best Canadian university player.

Drafted third overall in the 2006 CFL draft by the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Fantuz also played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

In his CFL career, Fantuz won a Grey Cup and a Most Outstanding Canadian award.

Longtime Western Mustangs coach Larry Haylor was named in the coach’s category, while Ontario Football named Bernie Custis in the builder’s category
