Where are the 2022 Maroons now?

The Chatham Maroons will have a ring ceremony for their 2022 GOJHL Western Conference championship team, at this Sunday’s game.

The ceremony will take place on-ice prior to the game against the Hamilton Kilty B’s. The game will start at 4 p.m.

The team and coaching staff will be presented with their championship rings by Maroons’ owners Karen and Bill Szekesy.

The players will be available for autographs and photos on the upper East walkway during the first intermission.

Here’s a recap of where some of the 2022 players are playing now.

Connor Paronuzzi: Is currently playing in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League for the Steinbach Pistons. In 26 games Paronuzzi has 21 points. Last year Paronuzzi split his time between the Maroons and the OJHL Wellington Dukes.

Paronuzzi was the Maroons’ leading point-getter in the 2022 playoff run.

Lucas Fancy: The Charing Cross native was the Maroons’ captain in 2022. He is in his second year playing for Niagara University,

David Brown: The Blenheim native started this season playing for the OHL’s Saginaw Spirit, playing four games, before coming back to Chatham and currently plays for the Maroons.

Cameron Graham: The Chatham resident plays currently for the Sarnia Legionairres, where he is averaging a point a game.

Cameron Welch: One of the veterans on the Maroons, Welch played the 22-23 season with the Alvinston Bees in the Western Ontario Senior Hockey League.

Dylin Glinski: Last year Glinski played in the Alberta Junior Hockey League with the Drumheller Dragons. This year Glinski is playing in the NAHL with the Springsfield Jr. Blues.

Colin Whaley: Whaley is currently playing in the MJHL in Manitoba with the Niverville Knighthawks. The Michigan native split time last year with Cobourg in the OJHL and the Jersey Hitmen.

Cam Symons: After playing in the BCHL with the Powell River Kings last season, Symons is playing his freshman season with SUNY-Oswego.

Craig Spence: After playing over four full seasons of junior hockey with the OJHL’s Georgetown Raiders and the Maroons, Spence moved down to Junior C to play for the Blenheim Blades last year so he could play an extra year of junior hockey.

It’s fair to say that Spence is dominating the league with Blenheim this season. He was named the Stobbs division player of the month in November. In 25 games, Spence has 20 goals and 37 assists for 57 points, which is top in the Stobbs Division. Keep in mind he’s a defenceman. Spence is third in the PJHL in points and first in assists. The PJCHL has 61 teams.

Warren Clark: The defenceman from Windsor played in the MJHL last year and was drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2023 NHL draft in the sixth round 179th overall.

This year Clark is playing college hockey for the St. Cloud State University.

Noah Szabo: The St. Thomas native was a teammate with Warren Clark last year with the Steinbach Pistons in the MJHL. Szabo is still with the Pistions and is having a strong season with 25 points in 29 games. Szabo was named the MJHL’s defenceman of the month for November.

Owen Sculthorp: After playing two seasons with the Maroons, Sculthorpis playing this season with the New Hamburg Firebirds in the PJCHL.

Julien Gervais: After playing the past two seasons with the Maroons, Gervais is playing this season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League for the Calgary Canucks.

Gervais was the Maroons’ leading scorer last year.

Matthew Cunningham: Graduated from junior hockey last year after playing in 123 GOJHL games and is playing in his freshman season at the University of Michigan-Dearborn.

Isaac Legood: After playing last year with the Essex 73s, Legood is playing his PJCHL overage season with the Wheatley Sharks. He has 27 points in 24 games.

Nolan Miller: After playing last year with the USPHL Premier’s Minnesota Moose, Miller is playing this season with his hometown London Nationals in the GOJHL.

Bryar Dittmer: After leading his hometown Maroons to a championship, Dittmer is now a sophmore defenceman with Concordia University in Wisconsin.

Blain Bacik: Bacik still plays for the Maroons, where he recently played in his 100th GOJHL game.

Nolan DeKoning: The Wallaceburg native was strong in net for the Maroons’ championship run after being traded from Sarnia.

For his athletic efforts, DeKoning was named outstanding achievement annual award winner by the Wallaceburg Sports Hall of Fame at their 2023 awards ceremony.

DeKoning has played the past two seasons for Alvinston in the WOSHL.

Luka Dobrich: The goalie from Belle River split time last season with Trenton in the OJHL and the Maroons.

Will McCracken: Recently signed with the Blenheim Blades.
