CKSS hockey teams punch their tickets to OFSAA
It has been quite the week for the hockey programs at Chatham-Kent Secondary School. Both the girls’ hockey team and the boys’ hockey team qualified for the OFSAA provincial high school tournaments.
Both the OFSAA tournaments are in the same location, giving Chatham-Kent built-in cheering sections if the timing works out.
Girls
The Golden Hawks defeated Windsor Holy Names 5-2 on Monday at Chatham Memorial Arena to win the SWOSSAA AAA championship.
Grade 12 Jeanette Legere had a hat-trick in the win, with Ali Altiman and Emily DeBrouwer adding single goals. Grade 9 goalie Rylie Romses earned the win in the Chatham-Kent net.
Romses posted a 3-0 shoutout in the LKSSAA final last week against the Ursuline Lancers.
With the win the Golden Hawks move on to the OFSAA AAA championship March 19 to 21 in Brooklin.
Boys
CKSS beat the St. Anne Saints 2-1 in the SWOSSAA final in Tecumseh Tuesday.
Morgan Paine and Noah Wilson had the Golden Hawks’ goals.
With the win the Golden Hawks move on to the OFSAA AAA championship March 19 to 21 in Brooklin.
The win was a year in the making, as the Golden Hawks lost a heartbreaker last year in the SWOSSAA final. Their 2023 season ended with a six-overtime loss to the Villanova Wildcats at Erickson Arena.
