Red Devils split on opening weekend

The Wallaceburg Red Devils team split their first two regular season games on the weekend, winning big at home 15-1 against Welland on Saturday, and losing to Guelph 10-7 on the road on Sunday.

The Red Devils scored the game’s first 12 goals to win easily.
Waukiigan Shognosh was strong in net with 50 saves, only allowing one goal.

Ty Myers led the Red Devils with four goals. Brandon Taylor had three goals. Notah Hopkins, Brayden Mitchell and Kaelen Smith each had two goals.

Reece Parker and Brayden Sands added single goals. Cohen Veenstra had five assists.

Prior to the game the Red Devils retired former player Matt Cousins number 72. Cousins played for the Red Devils for five years (2015-2019). He, along with two others, died in a car crash in May of 2023.

Guelph 10, Red Devils 7

Guelph led 6-3 after one period and 9-5 after two periods.

Brayden Mitchelle had two goals for Wallaceburg, with single goals going to Reece Parker, Cohen Veenstra, Brandon Taylor, Notah Hopkins and Kanton Verstraeten. Verstraeten also had three assists.
Waukiigan Shognosh took the loss in net for the Red Devils.

This weekend the Red Devils host the Cambridge Highlanders on Friday, (April 26) and travel to Hamilton on Saturday.
