Wildcats earn silver at Ontario Cup
This past weekend the Wildcat Bantam girls’ team was placed in Division 1 of the Ontario Cup. The team went 3-0 in pool play. In the finals the team came up short, earning a silver medal.
In the championship game the Wildcats found shots were hard to come by, getting up the fewest shots in a game played all season. The Scarborough Blues came out on top by a score of 51-25.
In the first pool game the Wildcats faced the number one ranked team from Brantford.
The Wildcats won by a score of 36-22, in a total team effort.
The second game found the Wildcat Bantams playing against a familiar foe, the Huron Lakers. As usual this one was a close contest throughout, with the Wildcats pulling out a close 37-32 win.
The third game in pool play saw the Wildcats face GCBA, a team from Gloucester in the Ottawa area. The Wildcats were only up by four at the end of the third period. In the fourth period the Wildcats wore their opponents out with relentless defensive intensity and pulled away for a 50-34 victory.
Team members include Jaida Brown, Alivia Brown, Gabby Pascual, Layla Bardyla, Julia Cummings, Hannah Leidl, Ella Matteis, Anna Morkin, Zahara Rowe, Irelynd Cormier, Lucy Gillett and Willow Sparling.
