Walpole Island’s Ferrah Blackbird has been named to the Haudenosaunee Nationals women’s box lacrosse team.

Haudenosaunee Confederacy will take part in the first-ever World Lacrosse Women’s Box Championship in Utica, New York, September 20-29. The roster, which features 26 players, was announced earlier this month.

Blackbird plays in the Wallaceburg Griffins minor lacrosse system, and is a member of the Wallaceburg Griffins U22 women’s team. She was a member of Team Ontario Midget Girls team that played in Coquitlam, BC for the National Box Lacrosse Championship in 2019. The team won silver.

Blackbird played this past winter for the Paris RiverWolves in the Women’s Arena Lacrosse League.

A multi-sport athlete, Blackbird is also a standout hockey and basketball player.

There will be 10 women’s teams taking part in the World Championships. Pool A will include Haudenosaunee, England, Hong Kong China, Netherlands and United States. Pool B will include Canada, Australia, Finland, Germany and Ireland.
