The Blenheim Blades have picked Grant Spence to be their head coach next season.

The 24-year-old Spence will be making the transition from playing to being behind the bench.

A former Chatham-Kent Cyclone player, Spence played for the Chatham Maroons before playing in the Ontario Junior Hockey League for a couple of seasons. He then moved on and played for the University of Windsor Lancers and then professionally in the East Coast Hockey League and the Southern Professional Hockey League.

This past season Spence played for the Alvinston Bees of the Ontario Super Hockey League.

Spence’s younger brother Craig Spence is a former Blades captain. He died in April of 2004, shortly after finishing up his overage junior season
