Konecny and Montour playing for Team Canada
Former Chatham-Kent Cyclones AAA players Travis Konecny and Brandon Montour are on the roster of Team Canada, which will play in the upcoming IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship taking place in Stockholm, Sweden and Herning, Denmark from May 9 to 25.
Konecny had a strong year with the Philadelphia Flyers. The Clachan native set a career high for points (76) and assists (52). The 28 year-old just completed his ninth year with the Flyers.
Konecny has a goal and two assists in a 6-0 exhibition win against Hungary on Thursday.
Montour, who spent most of his childhood in Tilbury, just finished his first season with the Seattle Kraken. The 31 year-old set a career-high for goals (18) in what was his ninth NHL season.
The tournament marks the final senior men’s international competition before NHL players return to the Olympics in Milan next winter.
Canada opens play Saturday against Slovenia.
