Alumni give back to girls’ hockey

Chatham-Kent Girls Hockey Association (CKGHA) is proud to highlight the contributions of four alumni currently serving on the executive board, each bringing a deep personal connection to the sport and a passion for mentorship.
Sophie Maine shared:
“I decided to become a board member with the Crush to be involved with an organization that did so much for me growing up. I was a part of the Outlaws/Crush from the age of 9 to 18 years old and it gave me lifelong friends, skills and memories. My hockey memories are some of my favourite parts of my childhood, and I hope to be able to create some of the same memories for the girls currently in the program!”
Jocelyn Maryshak added:
“I joined the Chatham Crush Hockey board because I want young girls to see that they belong in this sport, not just on the ice, but in leadership too. Being a female hockey player in Chatham made me feel seen, supported and confident in myself and I am hoping to build a community where younger female hockey players can feel the same.”
Myria Mallette, now serving as president, reflected:
“Hockey shaped me into the person I am today. It opened doors and created opportunities I never could have imagined. I want to help ensure that the girls coming up today have access to the same kind of experiences and chances to grow. Beyond the game itself, hockey teaches invaluable life lessons—teamwork, perseverance, how to win and lose with grace, resilience, and collaboration. It builds friendships that last a lifetime.”
“That’s what it’s really about: helping create the kind of meaningful, lasting experiences that left such a mark on me—for the next generation.”
The fourth executive member, Kerry Jack, was a former Outlaw teammate of Mallette, continuing the legacy of leadership and camaraderie.
