Branton earns five medals at OUA meet

Western Mustang  Shona Branton concluded the 2026 OUA Swimming Championships with a dominant performance, highlighted by becoming a Grand Slam Champion in the 50m breaststroke and setting a new OUA record in the 4x50m medley relay.

The Ontario University Swimming Championships took place from February 19-21, hosted by the Toronto Varsity Blues.

Branton captured three individual medals and secured a historic career milestone:
• 50m Breaststroke (Gold): 31.01s, earning a Grand Slam for medaling in the same event at four consecutive OUA Championships.
• 100m Breaststroke (Gold): 1:06.19
• 200m Breaststroke (Silver) 2:28.15

• 4x50m Medley Relay (Gold & OUA Record): Branton, alongside Leah Butler, Sydney Hardeman, and Zea Wetzlaugk, set a new OUA record of 1:49.67.
• 4x100m Medley Relay (Silver)

The Western Mustangs women’s team secure a second-place overall finish with 871.5 points.

For her sustained excellence throughout her varsity career, she was also named an OUA Award of Distinction.

Branton will now move on to the U Sports swimming championships being held in Markham March 12-14.
