Baker and Kucher debut for OHL’s Guelph Storm

Chatham Maroon defenceman Carter Kucher and forward Andrew Baker, made their OHL debuts with the Guelph Storm this past weekend, playing in a pair of games

Kucher has played the past two years for the Maroons, and has become a fan favourite due to his hard-hitting gritty style of play.

The Sault Ste. Marie native, was originally drafted into the OHL by the Flint Firebirds.

Baker has had a tremendous start to his 2026-27 campaign with the GOHL’s Chatham Maroons. In his first two games, Baker recorded two goals and six assists for eight points while also being named GOHL Prospect of the Week in the first week of the season.

In his first season of junior hockey in 2025-26, the right winger notched 13 goals and 21 assists for 34 points in 42 games for the PJCHL’s Essex 73’s and added another seven points in 12 playoff games. The forward from Woodslee was originally selected in the ninth round 165th overall in last year’s OHL draft.

“I am very excited to officially sign with the Guelph Storm,” Baker said in an online statement. “I am grateful for the opportunity and for everyone who has helped me get to this point. I can’t wait to get started and see what’s ahead.”
