The Wheatley Sharks just opened the eyes of the entire Great Lakes Junior C Hockey League with a 6-1 blasting of the powerhouse Essex 73’s in the first game of their playoff series. Not only did Wheatley win big, but they did it on the road infront of a hostile Essex crowd.

In fact, Wheatley held Essex off the scoreboard until the 15-minute mark of the third period and allowed only 23 shots against in the game.

Shane Vienneau lead the way for the Wheatley Sharks scoring twice, while Josh Tremblay, Shawn Quigley, Dylan Cosford, and David Bingeman added singles. The game could have been worse for the 73s had the Wheatley Sharks been able to capitalize on any of their 10 powerplay opportunities.

Game two of this series gets underway at 7:30pm on Monday in Wheatley.
